There are so many factors that go into deciding where to live, so we’re comparing 2 popular suburbs north of Boston: Wilmington and Tewksbury. Read on below for things to consider about each of these towns.
Location and Population:
Wilmington has a smaller population, about 22,000 people, than Tewksbury, which has around 31,000 people. Tewksbury’s tax rate of $14.10 is higher than Wilmington’s rate of $11.94, however the average single family home in Wilmington cost $751,683 versus Tewksbury’s average sale price of $667,317 in 2023. Both have a town form of government, which means they are governed by a Select Board.
Commuting:
Both of these North of Boston communities are great choices for commuters. Both Tewksbury and Wilmington have several exits off route 93 with direct access to Boston, and Wilmington also has two commuter rail stations that run along the Lowell and Haverhill lines.
